Lettuce get this straight

This is how our lettuce plant began life, in our garden that was going to be ordered and useful. (Well, how useful are violets and dahlias next to veggies, but we know how Edwin's thinking exists on a plane of its own)...

Despite my mother's advice, we forgot to buy fertilizer, but the soil we bought must've been extremely fertile.

Only three months and a whole bunch of pre-wedding neglect, and this is what we got.

The fence is perpendicular on the left. So, yes, this is our own crazed and leaning tower of lettuce. It's inedible, but to get our return on investment back on our lettuce buds (about 50 eurocents per plant) we could start charging entry and make a little money on the side that way!
