Week 8: Things

1 September – 6 September: Italy - Croatia
Tom tom, the navigator, can be a real pain sometimes, particularly when you want to drive from the Dolomites to Plitvice Jezera National Park in Croatia. This is where you drive in circles for an hour just 100 kms north of Venice and just give up and stay in Trieste at Camping Mare Pineta. Thank goodness they had a pool that was open for another 45 minutes, and then had a lovely walk along a craggy cliffed trail which inspired Rainer Maria Rilke so well in another time.
When a bushfire broke out along the coast of Croatia (so we believe it was, we haven´t checked the news), we were impressed by the swift action of the aerial firefighting power of the authorities there. Plane after plane swooped down into the Adriatic Sea to collect tanks full of water to douse the flames that were beyond our view, beneath a blanket of black and gray smoke.
Sunsets and clear blue waters – that’s the Adriatic sea. These days the water is a boiling 26⁰C. Lekkerrrrrr!
